Purpose
To bring awareness to the plight of hurting pastors nationwide.- Church pastors are expected to be preachers and teachers, spiritual mentors, worship leaders, prayer warriors, and comforters. We have them marry us, baptize us, bury us, and expect them to have big shoulders that we can cry on. Plus most pastors are also expected to be part CEO, bookkeeper, fund raiser, events director, school principal, janitor ... the list goes on.
- Pastors and their spouses shoulder tremendous responsibilities. Too many pastors are underpaid, overworked, and unappreciated.
- It is a wonder that the stress of “serving God” and being “faithful to their flock” does not lead to more burnout and even worse for many.
- Consider the following facts from Barna Press: (The Barna Group)
- 1500 pastors leave their assignments every month due to conflict, burnout, or moral failure
- One third of new pastors leave their ministries in the first 5 years
- 82% of pastors have considered leaving the ministry
- The average pastoral career lasts about 14 years
The Conclusion:
Our pastors, and their spouses, are always there for us...Now, it is time for us to be there for them.
Will you help?
